Shingle roof repair that fixes the cause, not the stain

A leak shows up on the ceiling; it almost never starts there. We trace the water from the attic to the flashing, the pipe collar or the course of shingles that failed, fix that, and photograph it so you see what was done. Same-day emergency response, 24 hours a day.

What you see, what it usually is, what we do

Shingle roofs fail at the details. Six patterns cover most of the repair calls we get from New Jersey homeowners.

01

Water stain on a ceiling after rain

Usually: flashing at a chimney, vent pipe or sidewall, or a cracked pipe collar. The shingles are often fine.

We do: trace the path from the attic, reflash the penetration, replace the collar, reseal. Photos before and after.

02

Missing, lifted or torn shingles

Usually: a wind event on shingles that lost their seal, or a roof past 15 years.

We do: replace the damaged courses, re-seal the surrounding tabs, check the ridge. If it is widespread, we say so.

03

Leak only in winter

Usually: ice dams at the eaves, melting snow backing up under the shingles.

We do: clear the dam safely, add ice and water shield where it is missing, fix the attic ventilation that caused it.

04

Nail pops and bumps

Usually: nails driven high or deck movement; each one is a future leak.

We do: reset or replace the nails, seal every head, inspect the courses around them.

05

Dark streaks, moss, debris in valleys

Usually: algae and shade; cosmetic at first, then water held against the shingle.

We do: soft-wash, clear valleys and gutters, and where it fits, a protective sealer. Never a pressure blast.

06

Storm, tree or hail damage

Usually: an insurance matter as much as a roofing one.

We do: tarp the same day, document everything for your insurer, meet the adjuster if needed, then repair or replace.

  • Leak repairs around chimneys, vents, skylights and sidewalls
  • Storm, wind and hail damage
  • Flashing kits, counter flashing and step flashing
  • Pipe collars and boots
  • Nail pops and surface damage
  • Ridge vent repairs and attic fan replacements
  • Ice dam removal and prevention
  • Ventilation corrections
  • Gutter and fascia repairs tied to the roof
  • Siding and chimney repairs next to the roof
  • Pre-sale repairs with a written report
  • Protective sealers for aging shingles
Repair or replace?

The honest line between a repair and a new roof

We quote both when it is close. These are the rules of thumb our inspectors use; your report says which side your roof is on.

What we findRepairReplace
Age of the roofUnder 15 yearsOver 20 years, or unknown with widespread wear
Where the damage isOne area, one cause (a storm, a flashing, a tree)Several areas with different causes
Shingle conditionFlat, sealed, granules intactCurling, cupping, granule loss down to the mat
DeckingSolid underfoot, dry attic sideSoft spots, stains or mold on the sheathing

A repair on a roof that should be replaced is money spent twice. A replacement on a roof that only needed a flashing is money wasted. Either way, the inspection report tells you with photos, and you decide.

FAQ

Shingle repair questions

Have a question not listed here? Call (201) 267-3000 or request an estimate.

01Will the repaired shingles match my roof?+

We match brand, profile and colour as closely as the catalogue allows, but shingles weather and an exact match is rare on an older roof. On a visible slope we tell you that before we start.

02How fast can you come?+

Emergencies the same day in most cases, and always within 48 hours. Non-urgent repairs are scheduled within a few days of the estimate.

03Can you find a leak that only shows up sometimes?+

Yes. Intermittent leaks are usually wind-driven rain at a flashing or ice dams in winter. We inspect from the attic side, use infrared moisture scanning where needed, and test with water when the source is not obvious.

04Do you guarantee the repair?+

Yes. Repair work carries a written workmanship warranty; the length depends on the repair and is on the proposal.

05My insurer wants an estimate. Can you deal with them?+

We photograph and document the damage in the format adjusters expect, provide the written estimate, and meet the adjuster on site if you ask us to.

06Is it worth repairing an old roof?+

Sometimes. A single flashing leak on a 22-year-old roof that you plan to sell next year is worth a repair. The same roof with curling shingles and three leaks is not. The table above is how we decide, and we quote both when it is close.
