01How do I know my entry door needs replacing?+
Light or a draft around the edges, a door that sticks or has to be shouldered shut, a soft or rotted sill or jamb, rust on a steel skin, fogged glass, a lock that no longer feels secure, or simply a door that is dragging the house down. Any two of these and replacement usually makes more sense than another repair.
02Fiberglass or steel?+
Fiberglass for a single-family front door: the closest thing to wood grain, the most glass and colour options, no dents, no rust. Steel when security or budget comes first, for side and garage entries, and for commercial and multifamily buildings. Both insulate far better than wood and both are warranted up to 20 years.
03Will a new door lower my energy bills?+
An old wood or hollow door with worn weatherstripping is a hole in the wall the size of a door. Insulated polyurethane cores, compression weatherstripping, an adjustable threshold and Low-E glass close it; ENERGY STAR certified models qualify for the federal energy-efficiency credit on the door itself.
04How long does installation take?+
Most entry and patio doors go in within a few hours. Custom units with sidelights and a transom, or openings that need framing or sill repairs, can take a day. The opening is never left open overnight.
05Can I keep my existing frame?+
Sometimes, with a slab replacement, but we rarely recommend it: the old frame is usually where the air and water come in. A prehung unit with a new frame, sill pan and flashing is what the warranty and the draft-free seal depend on.
06What about sidelights and a transom?+
They are sized to the opening and matched to the door's glass. If your opening has no sidelights today, adding them means enlarging the rough opening, which we do as part of the job and quote up front.
07Do you install smart locks?+
Yes: keypads, smart deadbolts and multi-point locking are fitted at install, along with handlesets and deadbolts in seven finishes. We prep the door for the lock you choose so there is nothing to drill later.
08What warranty do I get?+
Doors are warranted for up to 20 years: the manufacturer's warranty on the door, with paint and stain finishes warranted up to ten years, plus Window Depot of North Jersey's labour warranty on the installation. See the contract for the details; both are in writing before you sign.
