Seamless gutters, leaf guards, downspouts and drainage

Gutters that carry the water where it should go

A roof sheds thousands of gallons in a storm; the gutters decide whether it lands in the drain or in the basement. We install seamless aluminum, copper and steel gutters sized to the roof, hang them on fascia we repair rather than hide, add guards that actually keep leaves out, and fix the ones that sag, leak and overflow. Homes and commercial buildings across New Jersey since 1990.

What the symptom usually means, and what we do about it

Six things we see most on New Jersey gutters, and the honest answer for each.

01

Water pouring over the front edge

Usually: a clog at the downspout, or a gutter too small for the roof above it.

We do: clear and flush; if it overflows clean, upsize to 6-inch gutters and 3x4 downspouts.

02

Sagging, pulling away from the fascia

Usually: spike-and-ferrule hangers that worked loose, or fascia that rotted behind them.

We do: re-hang on hidden screw hangers every 24 inches; replace the rotted fascia first rather than screw into it.

03

Drips at corners and seams

Usually: sectional gutters whose seams and mitres have opened.

We do: reseal with gutter-grade sealant; or replace with seamless runs that have no joints to open.

04

Water in the basement after storms

Usually: downspouts dumping at the foundation, or underground drains that are crushed.

We do: extend or redirect downspouts, add splash blocks or buried drain lines, regrade where needed.

05

Ice dams and icicles every winter

Usually: heat loss into the attic melting snow that refreezes at the cold gutter; the gutter is the symptom.

We do: insulation and ventilation fixes, ice and water shield at the next roof, heat cable where nothing else will.

06

Gutters full of shingle granules or seedlings

Usually: an ageing roof shedding, or leaves composting because the gutters never get cleaned.

We do: clean, assess the roof honestly, and fit guards so the next clean is years away.

Gutters and guards

Which gutter, which guard, which size

We supply through JayKay Gutter Supply, Alcoa aluminum and Gutter Helmet, and we size the system to the roof area and the pitch above it. These are the choices and when we recommend each.

Seamless aluminum .032 gauge, 5 or 6 inch

Best for: most New Jersey homes; the best value by far.

Why: formed on site to the exact length, no seams to leak, dozens of baked-on colours, never rusts. We use the heavier .032 gauge, not the .027 that dents.

Expected life 20–30 yr

Copper half-round or K-style

Best for: historic homes, slate and tile roofs, churches, anyone who wants the gutter to outlast the house.

Why: soldered joints, no paint to fail, a patina that gets better; the right gutter under a slate roof.

Expected life 50+ yr

Steel and commercial box gutters, large sizes

Best for: commercial buildings, long runs, heavy roof areas.

Why: galvanized or Galvalume steel in 6 and 7 inch and custom box profiles, with oversized leaders and overflow scuppers.

Expected life 25–40 yr

Gutter Helmet solid-surface cover

Best for: heavy leaf and pine-needle cover; the "never clean your gutters again" system.

Why: a solid cover that uses surface tension to pull water in while debris slides off; installed under the shingle edge, warranted.

Lifetime warranty on the product

Micromesh guards stainless mesh on a frame

Best for: fine debris: pine needles, maple seeds, shingle grit.

Why: stainless mesh keeps everything out and takes the full flow of a downpour; fits existing gutters.

Expected life 20+ yr

Screens and the honest option inexpensive guards

Best for: light leaf cover, tight budgets.

Why: aluminum or vinyl screens keep big leaves out and cost little; they still need a look once a year. We tell you when a guard is not worth it.

What a gutter replacement includes with us

Why Roof4Roof

Gutters hung by people who also fix what is behind them

Gutter companies hang gutters. We also replace the rotted fascia, vent the soffit, fix the ice dam and tie the drip edge in, because the gutter is part of the roof edge, not an accessory. Four things we do on every gutter job that most crews do not:

  • Sized to the roofSix-inch gutters and 3x4 downspouts where the roof area needs them; a five-inch gutter under a big steep roof overflows in every storm.
  • Fascia repaired, not screwed intoHangers into rotted wood are a sagging gutter in two years. We replace the fascia and wrap it before the gutter goes up.
  • Water sent somewhereDownspouts that end at the foundation are how basements flood. Extensions, drain lines and grading are part of the job.
  • The owners' direct line on every documentIssues answered within 48 hours, most within 24. The owners' contact details are printed on every proposal and invoice.

And a share of this job funds a roof for a family in need, through our One4One program.

FAQ

Gutter questions, answered straight

What New Jersey homeowners ask us before they sign.

Have a question not listed here? Call (201) 267-3000 or request an estimate.

01Why do gutters matter so much?+

They move the water a roof sheds away from the walls and the foundation. Without them, or with them clogged, water runs down the siding, into the basement, under the slab and into the fascia and soffit. Most of the rot we repair started with a gutter.

02Seamless or sectional?+

Seamless, always. Sectional gutters from a store have a joint every ten feet and every joint eventually leaks. Seamless gutters are formed on site to the exact length of each run, with joints only at the corners.

03Five-inch or six-inch?+

Five-inch is the residential standard and fine for most roofs. Steep roofs, large roof areas and the valleys that concentrate water need six-inch gutters and 3x4 downspouts, or they overflow in every heavy storm. We size from the roof, not from habit.

04Are gutter guards worth it?+

Under trees, yes: they save the twice-a-year cleaning, keep the gutters flowing and keep ladders off the house. Which guard depends on the debris: a solid cover like Gutter Helmet for leaves, micromesh for pine needles and seeds, a simple screen for light cover. In the open, they are not worth the money and we say so.

05How often should gutters be cleaned?+

Twice a year without guards, spring and autumn, and after a big storm. With guards, a look once a year to check the downspouts and the guard itself.

06How long do gutters last?+

Aluminum 20 to 30 years with cleaning and the occasional re-hang; copper 50 years or more; steel 25 to 40. The hangers and the fascia usually give out before the gutter does.

07Who supplies your gutters and guards?+

JayKay Gutter Supply and Alcoa for aluminum, copper and seamless systems, and Gutter Helmet for solid-cover guards, with micromesh and screen options for lighter debris.

08Where do you work?+

Homes across Northern and Central New Jersey, including Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Morris, Union, Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Sussex counties. Commercial gutters and drainage across the whole of New Jersey.
