Volunteers Replace Roof For Senior in Need

STROUD TOWNSHIP — An elderly woman in Stroudsburg is thankful for all the racket at her home Wednesday. The racket came from a group of roofers who are giving back.

The noise of hammers, staple guns, and a person scraping off old shingles filled the air in this normally quiet neighborhood outside Stroudsburg. All the noise came from a group of volunteers installing a new roof.

And the racket didn’t seem to bother the homeowner, 92-year-old Ruth Brennan.

“No, it doesn’t bother me because I know what it means. We’re going to have a new roof at last,” said Brennan.

Ruth has been in need of a roof since Hurricane Sandy, which caused a lot of damage. So her son contacted Roof 4 Roof, based in New Jersey, in hopes of getting an estimate.

But instead, they got a much bigger offer.

“For every new roof we install for a paying client, we help someone in need who has emergency issues,” said Chuck Anania, the founder of Roof 4 Roof.

And Ruth is that person in need.

So the roofers volunteered their time for the day to give back to a very grateful Ruth.

“They are really something, wonderful, wonderful people that will surely be blessed,” said Brennan.

That may be so, but these volunteers say they’re just happy to help out.
